USMARC Concise Bibliographic: Series Statement Fields (4XX)
Fields 400-490 contain an author/title or a title used as a series statement in bibliographic records. The content of fields 400, 410, 411, and 440 are also used as a series added entry. The series statement in field 490 is not used as a series added entry tracing because it is either an untraced series or is one that is to be traced differently from the form contained in field 490. A series added entry tracing for a 490 series statement field that is traced differently is contained in one of the 800-830 series added entry fields.
The parentheses that customarily enclose a series statement and the tracing Series., preceded by a roman numeral, in some displays for fields 400-440 are not carried in the USMARC record. They may be generated based on the field tag.
